Retirement Resources

There are tons of good books out there on how to prepare successfully for retirement.  Here are some that I particularly like:

  • How to Retire Happy, Wild and Free by Ernie Zelinski:  Ernie is also the author of the Joy of Not Working.  He's got a great take on how you can live life to the fullest at any age, but he also has good advice for those heading into retirement.
  • Retirement for Two by Maryanne Vandevelde:  Managing 2 retirements can be a challenge.  Maryanne provides a great overview, with practical suggestions, about how couples can manage 2 retirements.
  • The Healthy Boomer by Edwards, Lhotsky, and Turner.  This books takes a comprehensive view of the health and aging issues baby boomers need to consider as they move towards and into retirement.
  • Retire Right (formerly Retirement Rx) by Fraunfelder and Gilbaugh, both medical doctors.  They undertook a study called the Retirement Docs Survey and based on the results came up with 8 traits they believe you need for a successful retirement.  Could be very helpful to anyone struggling with the psychological side of retirement planning.
